Mass Effect Lesbian/Alien Sex Scene Controversy

Mass Effect Lesbian/Alien Sex Scene Controversy

Published by projectego on January 12, 2008

Even months after the original release of Mass Effect for the Xbox 360, BioWare is still seemingly having to have to deal with the now infamous alien and lesbian sex scene controversy which surrounded the game even before release. For Mass Effect fans amongst us whom might have missed it first time round: The first blow to strike BioWare, because of this lesbian and alien love scene business, came from Singapore when their government banned it from their country entirely.

The Australian Classifications Board gave Mass Effect a rating of MA15+ and the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) awarded the game a rating of 12 and over - obviously meaning that a lot of potential but under-age Mass Effect fans missed out on getting the game for Christmas due to the age restrictions imposed and parents not deeming it appropriate for their children.

On the other hand you could argue that the inclusion of adult material into Mass Effect, such as lesbian and alien sex scenes, and the controversy caused could have helped aid the phenomenal sales that the game received.

And just a general FYI: Accomplishing the love interest sidequest and viewing the optional sex scene will unlock the Paramour achievement and reward you with 10 lovely gamer points.

I dont see the problem with the alien sex scene! You don’t see anything and it is not that bad, when will people get over things like this? IT IS A GAME!

The singapore ban was also lifted shortly after being issued.

People need to realize that there are far worse things out there that they need to be concerned about. Mass Effect is just a video game and you can see a lot more on day time television, flipping through channels.
