Mass Effect: Jay Watamaniuk Interview

Published by Hexadecimal on September 5, 2007

Recently, at PAX, Community Manager, Jay Watamaniuk, sat down for a delightful interview. In it he discusses the way that Bioware have changed combat around for Mass Effect, and they way they’re hoping to appeal to a wider audience. He also went into a bit of detail on the difference between making rated T games, as they have in the past, with rated M games, as Mass Effect is. He talked a bit about the massive (get it mass, massive?… I’m not funny) amount of replayability inherent in the game due to the choices you are able to make, and finally, they finished off discussing a bit about downloadable content in the future.

When you get into Mature, you can make things a little darker. You can make things tougher, morally. So, when you go through the game, I mean, everyone has the same mission; you’ve got to save life in the galaxy, that’s what you’re here to do. I don’t care how badass you want to play it, that is what you’re here to do. It is how you get there, like if I have to decide over the death of this group over this group, none of those choices are any good. I have to be a hardass, I have to make that decision, because ultimately I have this goal for the greater good.
