Game Journalist, Geoff Keighley, Defends Mass Effect on Fox News

Published by Steve on January 24, 2008

Mass Effect hits the news once again, this time becoming the focus of discussion during a recent Fox News broadcast whereby an argument erupts between Canadian video game journalist, Geoff Keighley, and psychologist, Cooper Lawrence, concerning the adult content featured in BioWare’s ultra-successful RPG.

I wonder if BioWare could have ever imagined that the inclusion of a romance sub-plot and “explicit sexual content” could have caused this much controversy. Then again, I’m sure it has helped sell even more copies of Mass Effect.

Personally, I know who I’m backing. At least he’s actually played Mass Effect and knew what he was talking about.

What the HELL? I am appalled.

An AO rating for something that would only rate an “R” if it were a movie?

An AO rating (which would put it WAY out of my reach) for something that my oh-so-horribly liberal parents have allowed me to see since I was eleven or so?

And speaking as a adolescent male who, regrettably, doesn’t have a girlfriend– trust me, even though I read, play videogames, and (yes, occasionally) watch movies; I can still tell the difference between real people and relationships and digital ones.

It’s the pixels and subtitles. A bit of a giveaway.

And I am ashamed that the study the psych-job mentioned came from UMD.
